How to Break the Simulation
The following post was originally a private document created by Prakash Kadiri and I. We had been thinking about this concept which Kanye West called “ the simulation” and why it is so hard to escape. The document we wrote has basically constituted my life philosophy and informed my decision-making in the past year. My life has been quite an adventure ever since.
WHAT IS THE SIMULATION?
The simulation is a mentally created rat race that is reinforced by our environment. It causes man to give up his free will over to institutions, leading to an unfulfilling life. Because of the environments we are placed in, institutions signal specific messages on how life should be lived. People then create and pursue goals that they are led to believe are their own but are not their own. In the simulation, we live a life for the sake of others and not ourselves. Our happiness, joy, and success becomes dependent on others. We want to break the simulation.
WHY SHOULD I BREAK THE SIMULATION?
Breaking the simulation is no easy task - it could take your entire life to break the simulation. It takes consistent mental fortitude to break the simulation. In fact, living in the simulation is much easier. Living in the simulation is like having your meals made for you. Show up and keep eating, but it never stops. Living in the simulation is mentally, physically, and emotionally draining.
Those who are able to break the simulation, even by a little, live a more free life. They no longer feel trapped in their lives or routines. They are able to see a multitude of opportunity at their fingertips and take the risk. Simulation Breakers don’t want to be given meals like in prisons - they want to be their own chefs. They want to live a free life full of possibilities. They want to think for themselves and not be controlled by others’ thoughts and feelings.
WHAT BREAKING THE SIMULATION DOES NOT MEAN
Breaking the simulation does not mean becoming an inconsiderate asshole who pays no attention to others’ concerns. We are all brothers on this planet. A Simulation Breaker is able to take into consideration what others think or feel and analyze if it is relevant to his life and act accordingly. A Simulation Breaker is also not a contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. They do what they do because they genuinely want to - not to be different. Being different may be a side-effect.
HOW TO BREAK THE SIMULATION:
Competition by nature forces man to always be concerned about others status and achievements and takes focus away from oneself. You end up focusing on others’ goals and not yours.
DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK OF YOU AND WHAT YOU DO
Do care about yourself and your work.
STAY INWARD FOCUSED
Reflect often - ask yourself questions. Do I enjoy this? Do not lie to yourself, ever.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH OTHER SIMULATION BREAKERS
It is easier to break the simulation with others who have the same desire.
AVOID MIMETIC BEHAVIOR
A majority of desire comes from watching others. Do not allow your desires to derive from this - always ask yourself is this what you truly want for yourself? Are you staying true to yourself?
STAY FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTABLE
Do not specialize in only one thing - master as much as you are capable.
NEVER STOP LEARNING
Expose yourself to new ideas.
This will help resolve your unresolved problems.
Your body is your only home for life - proper nutrition is crucial to help one be mentally and physically light.
BE COMFORTABLE WITH CONTRADICTORY BELIEFS IN YOUR HEAD
PURSUE A CALM AND MODEST LIFE
Do not chase success for the sake of success - let it be a byproduct of your efforts and interests. Know when enough is enough.
DO NOT BE AFRAID TO REACH OUT TO STRANGERS FOR HELP
We are all brothers and sisters.
DO NOT TAKE ADVICE FOR ITS FACE VALUE
Advice is often given in response to the mistakes a person did himself - not necessarily specified for you. People are better off listening to their own advice than others’.
REMEMBER THAT NOTHING IS ON THE LEVEL
Nothing is as it seems; everything in life is more often than not overhyped or under hyped. The key is to understand that narrative rules the lives of most people. Look beyond the narrative and be willing to see things for yourself.
TRUST YOUR OWN JUDGMENT
SPEND TIME ALONE OFTEN
This helps with reflection & meditation.
REMEMBER THE IMPERMANENCE OF EVERYTHING
Nothing is forever - enjoy and appreciate everything in its moment.
